May Recap

My second graders and I took real and virtual field trips, then school ended. Woot, woot!

Hubs and I quickly visited Colorado for a friend's wedding. He was an usher.

We spent time with family. Izzy, the big outside pup, seems to be a permanent part of the farm.

I finished my first projects of the summer. 2 for them, 1 for me. I'm not necessarily an owl person.

June and July will be busy. Hubs will be balancing Butler and NexStep (a GED prep program) and WATC. I will be teaching summer school (now called Summer Academy, like a day camp) and taking another graduate class through ESU. Hopefully it's as interesting as my last one.

Ms. Frizzle

This year for Halloween, I dressed up as Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus series.

I debated between a weather dress or a plant dress, but I'm glad I chose weather because it was very fitting for this last week. I also wanted to have Liz, so I decided to make one.

Since my sewing machine has been out of commission, I ended up just hand-sewing Liz with felt. I ran out of time to add the darker green diamonds on her back, but otherwise, I think I impressed myself with how well she came out!

I love dressing up as characters for Halloween at school. It's fun putting the costumes together. Time to keep my eyes out for next year's character!

Back to School with Starbucks!

Last Wednesday was back to school for the kiddos. My new group is... wow! I was thinking last week that they seem less mature than last year's group, but then I wondered, did I say that same thing last year? I mean, I was used to my {almost} third graders, not these {barely} second graders.

Monday {yesterday} was marvelous with the kids. We were busy all day. The Title teacher {across the hall} even commented, “I haven't seen you all day,” because we'd been so busy in our classroom. If every Monday goes like it did yesterday, this will be a great year! We will learn and accomplish a lot. Today, Tuesday, not so much. I'm obviously going to have to work very hard to make every day like Monday. It could be the differences today…a para coming in the room today off and on, a shelter-in-place drill which meant a shortened outside recess…but there weren't enough differences to cause it to be so unlike Monday.

Today I ordered my first Starbucks drink. I received a gift card from a teacher friend so I decided to venture in today to figure out something for this non-coffee-or-tea-drinker to order. I had about 2 options: a “refresher” or a smoothie. {It's not cold enough weather to even consider hot chocolate as an option!} The guy was really trying to convince me to get a refresher, but I went with the safe choice, the smoothie. I know I've had one of those before. He ended up making a refresher for himself and giving me some in a cup to taste test. Yum! I liked the Very Berry Hibiscus refresher better than the strawberry smoothie I ordered. Good salesman! Now I know exactly what I will be ordering next time I'm in Wichita. I do, after all, need to fully appreciate my gift card! … Shoot… Am I becoming a Starbucks snob?

Christmas Crafts {School Edition}

A couple of the Christmas gifts we made at school:

a reindeer bell ornament
So cute and easy!

door hangers for the residents
at the nursing home where we went caroling

We also painted a wooden ornament with their picture in it.
You gotta do one of those each year!

Santas made by the teacher across the hall
So cute!
