Stealing, Tantrums, and an Evening Out

Today was a little crazy. I was absent yesterday at a meeting, but I learned today that a student had stolen something from my classroom. That same student later had a fit over missing recess time for the stealing incident and threw a pencil at me. At the end of the day, he had another fit when one of the aides that comes in my room tried to get him on task.

Hmm... "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven." Jesus is right. "But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them... Do to others as you would have them do to you... But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful." (from Matthew 5 and Luke 6)

Perhaps I need to pray more for this child and my responses to him, that I would be slow to anger and careful with my words, that I act out of love and not frustration (or sarcasm).

It was nice to have an outing with the hubby, though. We jumped on a 'groupon' opportunity and had an evening out to the Crown Uptown to watch the Wizard of Oz, a classic. It was great. The actors (and crew) did a great job. The 4-course meal was delicious and filling. It was a nice experience. I hadn't been there since my Girl Scout days. We'll have to go back again.
