June Recap

June was busy!

I decided to teach a class in the Summer Academy that my district has each summer. It's more like a day camp than summer school. Kids come 4 days a week, up to 4 hours a morning. They can eat breakfast and lunch free. There are lots of opportunities to try new things, especially since the main objective is fun, not learning.

For my class, I decided to transform trash (recyclables) into treasures. It took a lot of supplies, prep, and clean up. I will probably choose something else next year.

Here are some snapshots of our coolest treasures:

Kites and kaleidoscopes

Marshmallow shooters and catapults

Bubbles!

Ninjas :) my favorite of all our activities

I love a good kid note! This one was from a student who really wanted me to remember to show this dance video.

I am using part of the Summer Academy earnings to take a curriculum development class through Emporia State. It lasted 3 weeks long, and I finished with a 100%.

I am using the other part of the Summer Academy money to take a teaching and modeling class, also through Emporia State. I still have one more week left, which means one big project assignment left, and it couldn't be over soon enough!

The classes have been good, but I'm ready to do only things I want to do for the remainder of my summer "vacation."

Trish came to visit for a few days. I went with her to watch the Maize Community Theater's Wizard of Oz. It was pretty great.

The Mr. began working at NexStep, a GED completion program, as one of the Math teachers, along with his Butler Math classes.

And that's June.
